Low slope (flat) roof fasteners and installation equipment - the ultimate guide

Low slope roofs (commonly referred to as flat roofs) are those with height gains no greater than 4/12” for every foot of length. Commercial properties often choose this design because it utilizes less roofing material and labor than steep slope roofs, making it the overall more economical option. Additionally, the lack of (or reduced) attic space improves air circulation for more effective heating and cooling, further increasing operational savings.

Your choice of flat roof fasteners is vital to the building’s long-term success. Collaborate with SFS to find screws, parts, and installation equipment that deliver optimal disaster mitigation and resistance to the power of mother nature.

Dekfast™ screws - the ultimate low slope (flat roof) fastening solution

The Dekfast™ brand is universally understood to be the premier choice by specifiers and contractors for commercial low slope (flat) roofs. This robust product line is the result of close collaboration with installers to study worksite and long-term application needs, as well as ongoing, comprehensive laboratory testing to guarantee we deliver premium quality.

Dekfast™ screws provide varying degrees of resistance to rust, ranging from cathodic epoxy e-coats to the utilization of near-impenetrable stainless steel. Consider the level of corrosive elements in the environment or consult with a member of the SFS team before ordering flat roof fasteners.

For examples of popular Dekfast™ low-slope screws, check out, #12 Phillips Head, #14 Phillips Head, and #15 Phillips Head. All are engineered for superior pull-out values and extra stability when installing. What’s more, they all feature cathodic epoxy e-coats to reinforce protection from rust and other forms of oxidation, even when confronted with high humidity, ocean spray, or corrosive chemicals. Depending on your flat roof fastener of choice, screw lengths vary from 1.5" to 16” and can offer fully threaded applications up to 4” on standard products.

Specialty flat roof fasteners from Dekfast™ include #14 Insulation Panel Fasteners, #12 Purlin, and TPR.

Termination bars & ZAC® anchor fasteners

Termination bars serve the crucial role of attaching single-ply membranes to vertical substrates while reinforcing water tightness. For example, if the building has a chimney or parapet walls, builders would install the termination on top of the margin at which the membrane meets the concrete.

Our termination bars come in single lip, ribbed single lip, ribbed flat, lip and ball, and an all-purpose design. All models have termination points 6” apart and lack sharp edges that would jeopardize safety during installation. The strategic use of aluminum provides resistance against the damaging impact of moisture, wind, and corrosion.

While multiple types of roof fasteners are compatible with our termination bars, Zac anchors and  Zinc Nailin termination fasteners are designed for this very purpose. These specialty screws can be installed/removed for repairs with minimal damage to the substrate. What’s more, the head strategically leverages a composition of zinc and aluminum to safeguard from rust.

Stress Plates

Insulation Stress Plates

We design insulation plates in different diameters and shapes to fasten insulation and cover boards to the roof. As a result, they spread the load across the surface in order to prevent cracking the face of the board, as well as to increase the resistance of material pulling over the plate when confronted with dangerous winds.

Seam Stress Plates

This type of stress plate is a specialty-formed and designed metal washer meant to affix waterproof membranes at their seams. These plates are optimized to provide the best overall grip to single-ply materials for uplift approval.

Stealth pre-assembly tool & fasteners

Builders can increase productivity up to 30% when using the Stealth tool system to install pre-assembled #12 Dekfast™ fasteners with 3" round insulation plates. Time savings come from reduced setup, user-friendly features designed to minimize discomfort, and assured proper angling for accuracy.

Users choose whether to position the fasteners on the substrate or within the tool itself based on preference; regardless, the parts will lock into a 90° angle with the surface.

The stealth tools are available either corded or battery-operated.
